The Ground breaking for the Project was initiated by The President of the Republic of Uganda, Hon. Yoweri K. Museveni on June 16, 2016. Commissioned in August 2020, this project promises several direct and indirect benefits to the country and its economy. Each ship has the carrying capacity of approximately 150 trucks of fuel from the port city Kisumu on Lake Victoria to Uganda.
The economies of scale obtained provide benefits such as reduction of fuel transportation costs, control pollution, adulteration of fuel and ease traffic congestion from Mombasa to Kampala.
The project provides several indirect benefits such as providing young people of Uganda, with skills related to the oil & gas, marine industries. More than 500 local people were employed during the construction of the terminal. With civil construction performed completely from vendors in Uganda, indirect employment includes 10000+ people.
